An einem frischen Morgen,im Sonnenlicht ,welches sich halb durch die Bäume wirft,sieht man ein Pferd, zwei Kühe, acht Ziegen und Schafe vereint vor einer Melkszene.Eine Bäuerin, damit beschäftigt eine Kuh zu melken,zwei andere Gestalten mit einem Kinde sind Teil dieser Gruppe,zusammengestellt mit großer Natürlichkeit und ausgezeichnetem Geschmack.Die Haltung der Tiere ist von angenehmer Vielfalt.Im Vordergrund finden sich ein Ziegenbock,ein Schaf,ein alter Baumstrunk,und eine große Distel.Rechts in weiter Ferne ,eine Wiese mit einigen unmerklichen Tieren,dahinter eine Gruppe Bäume,welche zur Hälfte einige Gebäude verbergen,die ein Dorf verraten.Eine brillante Erfassung von Ferne ,mit einem Himmel übersäht von leichten Tonwerten vervollständigen diese bewundernswerte Komposition...

Julius Bien (Naumburg 1826 -1909 New York City) Kunstakademie Kassel und Frankfurt/Main.
Emigrierte 1849 nach der Revolution in die Vereinigten Staaten.In New York gründete Bien eine
lithographische Werkstatt für künstlerische und technische Drucke.Er war u.a. für die U.S.Regierung tätig.
Lithographien zu den amerikanischen Küstenvermessungen und die Entwicklung der Pazifik Eisenbahn.
Zu den Forschungsberichten von Hayden und Powell sowie zu den 'Records of the Rebellion'
Arbeitete an einer Edition von Audubons Birds of America in Farblithographie.
Großmeister des Bnai Brith Ordens.
Präsident der Nationalen Lithographen Organisation
Bien hatte den Ruf ,der beste Kartograph Amerikas zu sein und erhielt zahlreiche nationale und
internationale Auszeichnungen.
